BAGHDAD While the capture of Saddam Hussein has improved President Bush’s political stock, the President continues to be dogged by questions surrounding his alleged exaggeration of Saddam’s WMD programs during the run-up to war.
Seeking to lay these questions to rest once and for all,
President Bush reportedly offered Saddam a plea bargain in exchange for his agreement to pose with various WMD in a Defense Department photo shoot.
“This is exactly the evidence we’ve been looking for,” said White House political director Karl Rove, holding up a “recently discovered photo” of Saddam standing with a huge and varied pile of WMD, “not that I expect the liberal media to admit it was wrong, of course.”
“I knew they’d find irrefutable evidence of WMD,” exclaimed FOX News anchor Bill O’Reilly. “God, I love investigative journalism!”
Democratic frontrunner Howard Dean lambasted the Administration’s plea bargain with Hussein. “Just how stupid do you think voters are?” Dean asked before bursting into tears. “Oh God, I’m going to lose, aren’t I?” he asked.
Gen. Wesley Clark, who is still a candidate for President, said he could tell Hussein was not posing with Iraqi WMD in the pictures produced by the Administration. “Iraqi WMD has very clear distinguishing marks on it,” Clark explained. “You can tell if its Iraqi WMD just by looking for those little “Made in France’ stickers.”
